Meet To Go Counseling
I started working in the mental health field in 2009. While I have varied experience in other professional arenas, one common theme always arises: I am deeply interested in helping people.
My counseling journey thus far has led me primarily to working with children and adolescents as a school-based therapist. I spent nine years as a behavior specialist, working with children and teenagers challenged with a mental health diagnosis (ADHD, Autism, depression) and behavioral challenges. Following my time working in the schools, I served in a community mental health agency treating adult and young adult clients challenged with depression, anxiety, trauma, and addiction. My experience allows me to collaborate with school personnel, physicians, and the legal system, in order to advocate for my clients.
I utilize evidence-based therapeutic methods in order to help clients help themselves. I am a lifelong student and am passionate about learning new methods and practices in order to help my individuals actively meet their goals. I believe and respect that my clients know themselves best, and that my role in the therapeutic relationship is to act as a compass, supporting clients as they navigate life on their own terms.
It is vital for a client to feel heard and understood. I aim to develop a relationship that fosters positivity, trust, and most importantly— hope. I feel it necessary to use humor (yes, laugh a little) when possible. I am caring and nonjudgmental. My goal is for clients to feel at ease and comfortable when they are in my presence.
Viktor Frankl, an Austrian neurologist, said “When we are no longer able to change a situation, we are challenged to change ourselves.” I aspire to be an instrument of change for my clients, and am honored to walk beside them each step of the way.
We are beyond fortunate to have Rachel with us. Rachel started off her career as a journalist but thankfully recognized that she could utilize those writing skills by way of a clinical chart note instead and use her counseling skills to better lives around her. Rachel has extensive knowledge and work with children and adolescents. She provides comprehensive treatment and testing for children on the autism spectrum and their parents, but also loves the challenge of working with all populations. I am always amazed to walk into her office before a session...there are worksheets, handouts, and research surrounding her. Seeing the preparation she has done prior to each session keeps her constantly challenging all of us to do better by our clients, to be better. The testimonials from her clients continue to confirm that we have hired well above ourselves yet again.
